Jo Lewis – Founder and Creative Director

Jo Lewis founded Breakneck Films in 2010 with a remit to tell engaging and compelling stories through the medium of film, documentary and animation. She is an award winning writer, director and Producer whose films have played at international film festivals all over the world. Her recent adaption of a DH Lawrence short story The Rocking Horse Winner has screened at over 40 film festivals, winning 8 awards. She is producing the animation stop-motion short film Flower and the Girl which she created and wrote (in development with Film London and the enable shorts fund). Jo recently directed the short film Whisper staring Imogen Doel, which screened at London Short FF, Rhodes Island, East End FF, Soho International NY (nominated Best World Short), Hollywood Reel Independent FF (winner Best Short Film), FilmQuest and ScreamFest LA. Jo has just completed a documentary #sugarwater following the first ever performance of a Deaf and disabled theatre company at the National Theatre which premiered at the St Louis International Film Festival and has its UK premiere at Glasgow Film Festival. Jo is producing the Welsh comedy Llardo and is the UK producer on Winterland which is a Canadian Co-Production. She is directing the VR feature film Force 10 and Breakneck’s forthcoming VR feature project Hopeland with Ben Okri; and is further slated to direct the feature films Beach Boy and Pandion. Jo has worked in TV production (Factual, docs, development and drama) for companies including: Talkback, Endemol, IWC, Spun Gold, ITV, The BBC, Zenith and Wildfire. She has set up shoots in Canada, Israel, Palestine, Brazil, Romania, USA and Scotland! Her TV credits include The 11 0′clock Show, Ali G innit, Da best of Ali G and International Feature Length documentary co- productions for The Discovery Channel. Her film production work includes films by Mike Leigh, Anthony Minghella, Ridley Scott and Andrea Arnold’s OSCAR winning short film WASP. She has worked on numerous promos and commercials including for Madonna and Lynne Ramsay. Jo has an MA in Text and Performance Studies from RADA and Kings College London.
She is a member of Cinesisters and Film Fatales.
Jo has a slate of short and long films in development.
Ben Callis – Creative Director/PRODUCER
Ben is award winning creative director, producer and film maker, whose short film Viking premiered at Slamdance and took best global short at the Arizona International Film Festival. Ben co-produced Breakneck’s feature documentary #Sugarwater, and is producing across the slate of Breakneck’s current projects including Lardo, Babyface and Force 10. During his career he has received numerous international awards including Cannes Lions, One Show, Clio, British Television Advertising Awards and D&AD. He also is part of the IPA Digital Business Group which aims to define the impact technology is having on brands how that is effecting everyday consumption of information and content.
Sam Callis – Creative Director/Writer/Director
Sam Callis is an award winning writer and director and is Breakneck’s Co-Creative Director. After training at LAMDA, Sam has enjoyed a successful acting career starring in the West End alongside Lindsay Duncan and Olivia Coleman and at The Old Vic with Derek Jacobi. He is known to millions from his regular parts in TV prime time drama, his further TV credits include Game of Thrones Ultimate Force and The Royal. Sam’s directorial debut short film Inside Run premiered at The BFI London Film Festival and he followed that up with the short film Viking which he wrote and directed with his brother Ben. Viking premiered at SLAMDANCE and went on to win Best Global Short at the Arizona International Film Festival. In addition it has screened at Edmonton, Manchester and Carmarthen Bay. Ben and Sam have collaborated on a short Sci Fi Film Satellite filming in the spring. Sam has written Winterland with Joe May which is slated to be shot in Canada in 2018 with Sam at the helm.
